TOPIAS I
TOPIAS I
Strange Neighbour Gallery
29 April - 21 May 2016
topias = utopia + dystopia + heterotopia
TOPIAS I is the first of a series of exhibitions that examine contemporary Heterotopias.
The exhibition documents human-made spaces designed to promote privacy, sterility, surveillance and production, including a hospital, a morgue, an oil refinery, a coalmine, a power station and a prison.
By focusing on society’s most sterile spaces that harness functionality, I want to highlight the most basic requirements for human life: such as our need for food; cleanliness; the simulation of nature and above all; beauty.
