GOLDEN UTOPIA
Goldfields Art Centre

25 November - 17 December 2022

This exhibition showcases a culmination of over two years’ research and two artist residencies  undertook at the Goldfields Art Centre.

A painted mural featuring the Super Pit Mine is transported to various locations around the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Community members pose for their portrait taken in-situ, grabbing snapshots of the City’s cultural life, from Hannan’s Park to Boulder Camp, the Diggers and Dealers conference and the Main Reef Tavern.

This exhibition explores the multi-layers of culture and social class that are shaped by the mining industry in Kalgoorlie-Boulder - a place where work, wealth, family, nightlife, gold and ‘Utopia’ can be found.

The artist residency was commissioned and produced by SPACED for their Rural Utopias project.

This project was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia.
